Location and Grades

With three unique agro-climatic zones in Sri Lanka, the resulting tea that is grown in the seven regions of Nuwara Eliya, Uda Pussellawa, Dimbula, Uva, Kandy, Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna, comes with their own set of distinct characteristics. This diversity and differentiation make Ceylon Tea exceptionally versatile with the ability to cater to the palates of people all over the world looking for different varieties.

The main Sri Lankan tea grades are BOP, FBOP, OP, BOPF, PEKOE and BOP1 with other very special grades such as Silver Tips and Golden Tips being available as well.

Nuwara Eliya Tea

Unique just like it where it comes from, this is the tea made for connoisseurs. Grown at over 6000 feet above sea level, it brews a light, smooth beverage ideal for refreshment.

Uda Pussellawa Tea

Nestled in the mountain ranges of the area, the location boasts two superior seasons. Each season aids to the growth of its own variety of tea, the dry colder conditions resulting in a rosy tea that is of medium-body with a subtle character and a majestic flavour.

Sabaragamuwa Tea

Producing a tea that is of a larger particle size and stylish leaf, this can only be made possible by the regions lower elevation of about 2500 feet above sea level. Full-bodied and smooth, it has an unmistakable deep red hue.

Ruhuna Tea

Hailing from the southern region of Sri Lanka, this tea is grown at 2000 feet above sea level. This fact, along with the region’s soil condition results in a strong flavoured tea that is well known for its distinct taste.

Kandy Tea

Grown between 2000 and 4000 feet above sea level, this mid country tea is bursting with flavour that is perfect for anyone who enjoys the addition of milk to their brew.

Dimbula Tea

One or if not the most famous tea to come from Sri Lanka, this is grown between 3500 and 5500 feet above sea level. With the monsoon rains as well as the cold dry weather that are both present here, the tea comes in a variety of choice, from an intensely full-bodied brew to even a simple delicate one.

Uva Tea

With this tea being grown between 3000 and 5000 feet above sea level on Sri Lanka’s eastern slopes, you’ll find its brew to exude an absolutely unique flavour profile unlike the rest of the regions.
